Detecting Odometer Fraud
Odometer rollback is a serious fraud where the mileage is manually or digitally reduced to increase resale value. Here is how to protect yourself.
1. Check for Physical Wear
If the odometer shows 30,000 miles but the brake pedals, steering wheel, and seats are heavily worn, the mileage may have been tampered with.
2. Review Service Stickers
Look for oil change stickers on the windshield or door jambs. Often, fraudsters forget to remove these stickers which list the actual mileage at the time of service.
